Sushi Zushi
Why Sushi Zushi is a Must-Visit
About Sushi Zushi
Sushi Zushi = the restaurant that made Jurong's sushi scene take notice. Opened Westgate Sept 2025. Omakase-style counter, hand-served, but a la carte via QR code from S$2/2pcs. Feels special without the omakase price tag.
Westgate adds Genshi Yaki (原始焼き) charcoal grill — seafood grilled vertically over binchotan sand pit. Rare in SG. Tiger prawns, scallops, seasonal fish. Visual centrepiece.
Shari is exceptional: Hokkaido rice, hand-beaten 2x daily, mixed with red vinegar (akazu, fermented from sake lees). Brown-hued, deeper flavour. Taste the difference in every piece vs conveyor belt rice.

Queue Strategy
Your Dining Journey
Queue
Walk-in only. Queue on L3. Browse menu while waiting. Pro tip: decide orders before sitting - order immediately when seated.
Counter Seat
Counter islands facing itamae. Wooden tray. Watch them slice, form, place. Feels like a private performance.
Start with Shari
Start with S$2 nigiri. Notice the brown-hued rice = akazu (red vinegar). Grains hold but separate = hand-beaten. Sweet, acidic, deep. This moment transforms your experience.
Handrolls
Ebi fry (S$4.50) = safe start. Wagyu (S$9) = splurge. Aburi engawa = connoisseur pick. Warning: 2 handrolls + nigiri = full meal. Order in waves.
Genshi Yaki
Binchotan grill is a spectacle. Fat sizzles on charcoal. Miso cod: caramelised glaze cracks open to reveal flaky fish - one of the most satisfying bites in all of Jurong.
Sake at the Bar
Fri/Sat bar 9-11pm. Rare sake by Omu Nomu. Kitchen quiet, lights soft, counter becomes intimate bar. The izakaya experience Jurong has been missing.
Funan vs Westgate
Two outlets. Same shari, same core menu. But Westgate wins: genshi yaki (exclusive), larger space, late-night Fri/Sat bar.

Editor's Note
Jurong's most exciting Japanese opening in years. Shari alone is worth the visit. Genshi yaki is unique. Caveats: walk-in queues, 2-session gap, counter not for small kids, premium items add up. Clear #1 sushi recommendation for Jurong. Come for the shari, stay for the grill.
