Ichiban Boshi
Why Ichiban Boshi Stands Out
About Ichiban Boshi
Ichiban Boshi (一番星, 'Number One Star') was born in Singapore in 2001. Each of its 16 locations has a unique specialty concept, individually designed interior, and distinctive menu items. The JEM outlet gives a different experience from Jurong Point.
JEM operates as 'Robatayaki' — charcoal-grilled specialties with smoky depth. Jurong Point is 'Sakana' — seafood-focused, within Shokutsu Ten themed Japanese food street on B1.
Fresh seafood imported 3×/week from Japan through Osaka office. Menu spans sashimi, sushi, bento, donburi, ramen, udon, soba, yakimono, tempura. Flavoursome Bento sets (S$18–22) are the most popular range.

Understanding Robatayaki & Sakana
🔥 Robatayaki
Robatayaki (炉端焼き) = 'fireside cooking'. Slow charcoal grilling over binchōtan. Unlike teppanyaki's high heat, robatayaki is about patience and smoke. At JEM, the charcoal-grilled items complement the sushi and sashimi.
Sakana (魚) = 'fish'. The JP Sakana concept centres on fresh seafood within Shokutsu Ten — a themed Japanese food street evoking Tokyo's yokocho dining alleys. Japan's izakaya culture in suburban Singapore.

Editor's Note
Ichiban Boshi occupies a unique niche with dual concepts and Japan-direct fish. Reservations accepted. Honest caveats: prices add up with 10% svc + GST, JEM can feel cramped, some small portions disappointing. Overall, the strongest sit-down Japanese dinner option in Jurong.
