About Momoya
Momoya answers: what does Oita home cooking taste like? Tori-ten that shatters to reveal juicy chicken. Ryukyu — sashimi transformed by soy-sesame-ginger. Giant onigiri like a meal, not a side. Obanzai — home cooking elevated to izakaya. Only Oita-focused restaurant in Singapore.
At the centre: Momo-san — owner, cook, warmth. From Oita. 'Ever-smiling,' 'impossibly warm.' You don't feel like a customer — you feel invited into a Japanese kitchen. Counter seats, shochu shelves, Japanese music. The atmosphere invites you to stay longer than planned.
S$50 course (6-8pm): 4 appetisers + ryukyu + tori-ten + rice. Individual total exceeds S$100 — course halves the price. Giant onigiri S$12 are meals themselves. Duck hotpot S$28 for cold evenings. Pair with Kyushu shochu — natural partner.

The Course Unfolds
Four obanzai appetisers. Then ryukyu — marinated sashimi, uniquely Oita, different dimension. Then tori-ten — not karaage. Thinner, lighter batter, impossibly moist chicken. Oita chose a different path, and it's revelatory.
Rice Ball & Shochu
Course closes: rice ball (mentaiko, salmon, or ume) or egg rice. Free miso soup. Order Kyushu shochu — Oita's natural pairing. Cuts through tori-ten, complements ryukyu. By now Momo-san has made you feel this dinner was just for you. Total: S$50 + drinks.
Stay for the Hotpot
If room remains: duck hotpot (S$28) extends dinner to experience. Portable stove, bubbling broth, tender duck, conversation flows like steam. By 11pm, Momo-san gently winds down. You leave carrying the warmth of a home you've never visited but somehow always knew.
Editor's Note
Zero negative reviews — remarkable for Singapore. Because of Momo-san: genuine warmth, not strategy. S$50 course is objectively one of Orchard's best values. Tori-ten is revelatory. Caveats: very small and popular; narrow Oita focus (also its strength); à la carte not cheap — course is the value. Most distinctive regional Japanese cuisine on our Orchard list. No other restaurant in Singapore offers this. Essential.
