Hanashizuku
Highlights
About Hanashizuku
Hanashizuku opened March 2008 with a clear vision: high-quality at honest prices. 17 years and 115+ 5.0-rated Chope reviews later, delivered. Chef Steven Lee sources from Toyosu Market — same as Michelin-starred omakase, at izakaya pricing.
Located at #02-01 — modern, cosy, English-friendly. Unlike shoes-off Nagomi next door, designed for accessibility. Private dining room for 12 is a genuine asset — rare for Orchard izakayas.
Toyosu 3× weekly, menu updates weekly. Signatures: otoro sashimi, gyu tataki carpaccio, grilled unagi, salmon ikura don, mentaiko pasta. Tempura light and crispy. Comprehensive sake list.

Arriving
Cuppage 2F #02-01 — easy to find. Modern, warm interior. Counter or table. Staff greet with genuine warmth.
Ordering
Full menu control. Start: edamame, sashimi moriawase (Toyosu shines). Gyu tataki reliable. Mentaiko pasta — surprise hit, Japanese carbonara. End with salmon ikura don or ochazuke.
Drinks & Departure
Sake with sashimi. Try peach sparkling sake. Bill: S$50-60/person — genuine Orchard value. Notice Nagomi down the hall — two 20-year izakayas, 50 metres apart, completely different experiences.
Editor's Note
Hanashizuku is the most accessible quality izakaya in Cuppage — English menu, private room, lunch service, welcoming. Chef Lee's Toyosu sourcing delivers quality at izakaya prices. Caveats: chef is Singaporean (not Japanese); food is solid rather than revelatory; Cuppage building aging. For no-fuss quality Japanese with private dining in Orchard, Hanashizuku is one of the most reliable choices — 17 years and counting.
