About
Monster Curry is the only restaurant in Singapore that specialises in demi-glace Japanese curry rice. Since 2012, this EN Group concept has been serving generous portions of katsu curry, Hamburg steak curry, and other Japanese favourites smothered in their signature sauce — a slow-cooked blend of 14 different spices and vegetables that gives the curry a deep, rich sweetness distinct from typical Japanese curry.
What makes Monster Curry genuinely different is the portion philosophy. Their iconic plates come in two sizes — a 35cm regular and a 41cm jumbo — and the food matches the scale. You can customise your spice level from mild to extreme. It's honest, filling comfort food at prices that don't sting.

Editor's Note
Monster Curry doesn't pretend to be anything it's not. The demi-glace curry is noticeably different from standard Japanese curry — deeper, less sweet-sharp, with real complexity. The plates are comically large and the value is real. If you like Japanese curry and want to try something beyond the usual, Monster Curry deserves a visit.

Why Monster Curry in Singapore
Singapore's Japanese food scene is one of the most competitive outside Japan, with hundreds of restaurants ranging from S$5 hawker-style ramen to S$500 omakase. In this crowded landscape, Monster Curry has carved out a loyal following by delivering consistent quality at its price point. Whether you are a first-time visitor to Singapore looking for reliable Japanese food, or a resident seeking a trusted regular spot, this chain offers a dependable experience across all its outlets. The standardised recipes mean you get the same quality whether you visit the Orchard outlet or the one in your neighbourhood mall.
For tourists, the multi-outlet presence means there is likely a location near your hotel or on your itinerary. For residents, it means a familiar meal is never far away. Umami Compass recommends checking the individual area pages for outlet-specific details including exact addresses, nearest MRT stations, and local tips.
Ordering Tips
First-timers should start with the signature dish — it is the item the kitchen has perfected and the reason the chain built its reputation. If you are dining with a group, order a variety of items to share and discover your favourites. Lunch sets typically offer better value than ordering à la carte. Check the restaurant's social media for seasonal promotions and limited-time items. Most outlets are walk-in only with no reservations, so arriving slightly before or after peak lunch hours (12–1pm) will reduce waiting time.
Demi-Glace Meets Japan: The Monster Curry Difference
Japanese curry and Western demi-glace sauce rarely meet — but Monster Curry has built its entire identity around this fusion. The base sauce is a demi-glace: a rich, slow-reduced brown sauce made from meat stock, red wine, and aromatics, typically associated with French cuisine. Monster Curry takes this European foundation and infuses it with Japanese curry spices, creating a sauce that is deeper, more complex, and richer than standard Japanese curry roux. The result is a curry that has more body and a glossy sheen, with layers of flavour that unfold as you eat — the initial sweetness gives way to savoury depth, with a gentle warmth that builds gradually. Portions are intentionally generous (the 'monster' in the name is earned), and the menu offers multiple protein options: chicken katsu, hamburg steak, grilled chicken, and combinations. Adding cheese creates a gratinée effect under the broiler that takes the dish into comfort-food territory. With 11+ outlets across Singapore, Monster Curry has found a loyal audience among diners who find standard Japanese curry too mild and Western food too heavy — sitting right in the sweet spot between both traditions.
