About Genki Sushi Singapore

🚄 Singapore's first automated direct-to-table sushi delivery

Genki Sushi Singapore launched in 2011 as the first restaurant outside Japan to adopt the Kousoku Express system — a direct-to-table delivery track modelled after Japan's Shinkansen bullet trains. Rather than a conventional rotating conveyor belt, Genki's system delivers each order fresh from the kitchen directly to the right table, fast, precisely, and at exactly the right temperature. The name Genki (元気) means vitality and good health in Japanese — a fitting identity for a restaurant built around fresh ingredients and lively dining.

The menu spans classic nigiri sushi, aburi (flame-seared) sushi, maki rolls, sashimi, gunkan, donburi rice bowls, ramen noodles, sides, and desserts. The Dai Man Zoku (大満足, 'maximum satisfaction') series features pieces approximately 1.5 times larger than standard sushi at comparable prices — a popular upgrade for regulars. Top-grade short-grain Japanese rice is used across all sushi, imported for its texture and fragrance. Diners order via smartphone through the BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) system, with dishes arriving at the table in minutes.

With over 20 outlets across Singapore — from Chinatown Point and Bugis+ to Tampines Mall, Westgate, and Waterway Point — Genki Sushi is one of the most accessible Japanese restaurant chains on the island. Weekday lunch sets from S$7.90 make it a popular choice for office workers; the Everyday Value Menu from S$1.80 per plate keeps weekend family visits affordable. No reservations are accepted — queues at popular outlets during peak hours are common.

Your Dining Journey

How to get the most from a Genki Sushi visit — first-timer's guide.

01

Seat Yourself & Connect

Find a seat and scan the QR code on your table with your smartphone. No app download needed — the ordering system opens in your browser. Browse the full menu with photos and add items to your cart. First-timers: the photos are accurate and the system is intuitive, even for children.

02

The Train Arrives

Minutes after ordering, the Kousoku Express — a small bullet train-shaped delivery track running above table level — delivers your plates directly to your seat. A chime sounds as it approaches. Children invariably find this thrilling. The system keeps sushi fresh by eliminating the time it would otherwise spend on a rotating belt.

03

What to Order — The Essentials

Start with the Everyday Value Menu (from S$1.80) for a broad tasting. Upgrade to the Dai Man Zoku series for 1.5× larger pieces at S$1.90 — excellent value. The Aburi (flame-seared) sushi series, particularly the Salmon Belly and Hamachi Yuzu, are standouts. For something more substantial, the Spicy Tuna Maki and Ebi Fry are crowd favourites. Donburi bowls make a solid lunch.

04

For Kids — The Perfect Setup

Genki Sushi is one of Singapore's most reliably kid-friendly Japanese restaurants. The train delivery system captures children's attention immediately. The menu has accessible options — tamago (egg) sushi, mochi pancake desserts, and mild donburi — and the interactive ordering system keeps children engaged between dishes. High chairs are available at most outlets.

05

Paying & Leaving

Pay via the BYOD system — card, PayNow, or GrabPay. The bill is itemised on screen before payment. No tipping culture in Singapore — the service charge (if any) is included. For busy outlets, note that tables turn relatively quickly, so plan accordingly if you want to linger.

Editor's Note

What to know before you go

Genki Sushi is not a destination restaurant — it's a reliable, affordable, and genuinely fun Japanese sushi chain that delivers on its promise every visit. The Kousoku Express system is a legitimate differentiator: sushi arrives fresh, not after multiple laps on a belt. The Dai Man Zoku pieces are an excellent upgrade at minimal additional cost. For families with children, this is one of the safest bets for a Japanese meal on the island — the interactive system keeps kids happy, the menu has something for everyone, and the price point is fair. Avoid peak lunch and dinner hours at central city outlets (Suntec, Plaza Singapura) if you want to avoid queues. Suburban outlets like Westgate and Waterway Point tend to have shorter waits.

Why Genki Sushi in Singapore

Singapore's Japanese food scene is one of the most competitive outside Japan, with hundreds of restaurants ranging from S$5 hawker-style ramen to S$500 omakase. In this crowded landscape, Genki Sushi has carved out a loyal following by delivering consistent quality at its price point. Whether you are a first-time visitor to Singapore looking for reliable Japanese food, or a resident seeking a trusted regular spot, this chain offers a dependable experience across all its outlets. The standardised recipes mean you get the same quality whether you visit the Orchard outlet or the one in your neighbourhood mall.

For tourists, the multi-outlet presence means there is likely a location near your hotel or on your itinerary. For residents, it means a familiar meal is never far away. Umami Compass recommends checking the individual area pages for outlet-specific details including exact addresses, nearest MRT stations, and local tips.

Ordering Tips

First-timers should start with the signature dish — it is the item the kitchen has perfected and the reason the chain built its reputation. If you are dining with a group, order a variety of items to share and discover your favourites. Lunch sets typically offer better value than ordering à la carte. Check the restaurant's social media for seasonal promotions and limited-time items. Most outlets are walk-in only with no reservations, so arriving slightly before or after peak lunch hours (12–1pm) will reduce waiting time.
