Skewers Yakitori Izakaya

About Skewers Yakitori Izakaya
Skewers is the purest yakitori on Cuppage's charcoal grill corridor (4F). While Kemuri does kappo and Kazu does broad kushiyaki, Skewers stays focused: chicken, charcoal, simplicity. Behind a noren curtain. A Tokyo neighbourhood izakaya on Orchard Road.
Menu: one page, every chicken cut listed by name and price. Classic to adventurous — thigh to thyroid to cockscomb. Each labelled. Minimal seasoning: salt or tare. Wagyu cubes, pork belly, quail eggs also available. Signature Mini Chicken Ramen S$12++ with homemade broth.
What makes Skewers special: quiet confidence in simplicity. In a landscape of escalating luxury, Skewers offers honest chicken at honest prices. The noren is a deliberate choice — in Japan, it means 'we're open, come in.' Labelling every skewer turns dining into chicken anatomy exploration. Educational without being pretentious.

Cuppage 4F may be Singapore's best charcoal-grill Japanese corridor — three concepts, three moods:
Skewers (#04-01) — The Purist
Chicken yakitori, no-frills, noren entrance. Every cut. S$30-50++. Budget pick. Newest (2023).
Kemuri (#04-04) — The Evolution
Charcoal kappo (from yakitori, July 2025). Ex-Michelin chef. 50+ sakes. Ring the bell. S$100-180++. Most refined.
Kazu Sumiyaki (#04-05) — The Institution
30-year institution (1993). Same chef/owner. Foie gras, wagyu, chicken sashimi, 45-min sweet potato. S$50-80++. Most established.
Editor's Note
Skewers is the most affordable and focused of Cuppage 4F's three charcoal restaurants. No pretension — just well-executed chicken over charcoal. Labelled cuts help first-timers. S$30-50++ dinner, among Orchard's most accessible. New (2023), track record short vs Nanbantei/Kazu. Menu deliberately limited. For foie gras/wagyu, walk to Kazu next door. For no-frills charcoal chicken with a highball: Skewers is exactly right.
