Sushi Murasaki
What Makes Murasaki Special
About Sushi Murasaki
Tucked into the Nihon Food Street on Level 2 of Millenia Walk, Sushi Murasaki is one of Singapore's more quietly confident sushi counters. The name Murasaki (紫, meaning 'purple') refers to the traditional Japanese word for soy sauce — a nod to the deep roots of Japanese culinary tradition that the restaurant seeks to honour.
Seasonal fish arrives three times a week directly from Tokyo's Toyosu Market — a frequency that most omakase restaurants in this price range cannot match. The chefs use Akitakomachi rice from a specific farm in Akita prefecture, un-milled during transport to preserve quality and freshness. Instead of traditional pickled ginger (gari), Murasaki serves pickled green apple slices as a palate cleanser — a small but distinctive touch that surprises first-time visitors.
The restaurant shares its space with Kurama Robatayaki, a charcoal grill section operated by the same team. Counter seats facing the sushi chefs are the prime position, but guests can also sit at the robatayaki side and order from either menu. Two private dining rooms seat up to 8 guests each, with a minimum spend of S$1,000.

Kurama Robatayaki 鞍馬 — The Charcoal Grill Side
Sharing the same space as Sushi Murasaki is Kurama Robatayaki — a 15-seat robatayaki counter where chefs grill premium seafood, meats, and vegetables over charcoal, directly in front of you. The name Kurama (鞍馬) evokes the mountain north of Kyoto, and the style of cooking dates back centuries to Hokkaido's fishing communities, where fishermen would prepare meals around a communal hearth.
The experience is interactive — point at any ingredient on the display shelf, and the chefs will grill it for you. Dishes arrive on long wooden paddles (kai), a tribute to the fishermen who inspired robatayaki. Produce is imported from Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and Alaska depending on the season. The front of the space also houses Yoi Sake Bar, a standing bar inspired by Tokyo's narrow-alley watering holes, where you can enjoy sake, shochu, and bar snacks before or after your meal.

Counter or Table
Request counter seats when booking — watching the chef prepare each piece of nigiri directly is the full Murasaki experience. The robatayaki side is a good alternative if counter seats are unavailable, and you can still order from the sushi menu.
The Omakase — Seasonal & Personal
The Kumo set (S$180++) opens with an appetiser and three kinds of sashimi, followed by six pieces of nigiri featuring the day's best from Toyosu. The highlight is the mini Premium Wagyu Don — Kagoshima wagyu, black truffle, foie gras, uni, ikura, and onsen egg in one indulgent bowl. The chefs are attentive; regulars report that they adjust the menu based on observed preferences.
The Green Apple Moment
Between courses, you will be served yuzu-flavoured pickled green apple slices instead of the traditional gari (pickled ginger). It is refreshing, unexpected, and speaks to Murasaki's willingness to break from convention while respecting tradition. Freshly grated wasabi accompanies the sushi — no pre-mixed paste here.
Editor's Note
For the best value, the Fuji lunch set (S$48++ for 10 nigiri) is hard to beat — fresh Toyosu fish at a price well below most omakase lunches in Singapore. At dinner, the Kumo (S$180++) is the set to order if you want the full experience including the signature mini Premium Wagyu Don. The Aoi (S$138++) omits the don but adds more premium sashimi — good for purists who prefer fish over wagyu. If you only want one dish, order the Premium Wagyu Don à la carte (S$92–122++) — it is genuinely one of the most indulgent donburi in Singapore. Counter seats fill up fast for dinner; book 3–5 days ahead for weekends. The restaurant is on Level 2 of Millenia Walk, not the ground floor — follow signs to Nihon Food Street. Parking is available in the Millenia Walk car park.
