Your Experience
Find the Stall
MRT → Westgate B1 → food court → deeper inside → look for golden tempura display counter with 'Fuji' signage.
Pick Tempura
Take a plate. Pick your pieces. Get shrimp first (sells out). Sweet potato = best value. Avoid pale pieces. Fresh batches at 11AM/1PM/5PM.
Order Base Dish
Bring plate to counter → tell them your base dish → they total your tempura → pay → collect base dish.
Assemble & Eat
Grab free tenkasu + sauce → sit down → arrange tempura on your dish. Cold soba: dip both noodles + tempura in tsuyu. Hot: place tempura on top.
Japanese Food Culture: Tempura
Tempura originates from 16th-century Portuguese missionaries in Nagasaki. Japanese chefs refined it with lighter batter and precise technique. At Ginza counters it costs S$270+. At Tempura Fuji, the DNA is the same at 1/50th the price.
Editor's Note
Cold soba is genuinely good. Shrimp tempura is the star — sells out by evening. Sweet potato at S$0.90 is always reliable. Go at 11AM/1PM/5PM for fresh batches. Fish fillet has too much batter. Under S$8 for tempura + soba? Hard to beat anywhere in Singapore.
