Sukiya — 313@Somerset Orchard
What Makes Sukiya Special
About Sukiya at 313@Somerset
Sukiya is Japan's number one gyudon chain by store count, with over 2,500 outlets worldwide. Founded in Yokohama in 1982, the brand is built around a single compelling promise: authentic Japanese beef bowls, served fast, at prices that everyone can afford. The Singapore operation launched in February 2021 and has since expanded to 17 outlets across the island — every single one halal-certified by MUIS.
The 313@Somerset outlet sits at Basement 3 of the mall, directly connected to Somerset MRT station. This makes it arguably the most accessible halal Japanese restaurant on Orchard Road — you can step off the train and be placing your order within two minutes. The restaurant operates in a fast-casual format with meals arriving within five to ten minutes.
The menu centres on gyudon — Japan's iconic beef bowl. But it extends well beyond: beef yakiniku, Japanese curry rice, charcoal-grilled yakitori, chicken karaage, unagi, salmon, and combination bowls. Sizes range from small to XL. For Muslim diners on Orchard Road, Sukiya fills an important gap: affordable, reliable, genuinely Japanese comfort food with full MUIS certification.

Dietary Information
Understanding Gyudon
Gyudon: thin-sliced beef and sweet onions in dashi-soy-mirin sauce over rice. Originated 1800s as fast sukiyaki for workers. Unchanged for a century.
Gyudon chains are as common as McDonald's in Japan. Fast, cheap, customisable, deeply satisfying. Sukiya's Singapore menu extends beyond gyudon into yakiniku, curry, yakitori, unagi, and salmon.

Editor's Note
Sukiya is not trying to be a fine dining experience, and that is exactly its strength. At S$5–15 per person, it delivers honest Japanese comfort food with full halal certification — surprisingly rare on Orchard Road. The gyudon beef is tender, the sauce well-balanced, the rice consistent. The 313@Somerset location is unbeatable for MRT access. For Muslim diners craving Japanese food here, Sukiya is the clear first choice. For anyone wanting fast, cheap, tasty Japanese food while shopping, equally good.
