Honest Assessment

Only halal belt sushi in Tampines. 200+ menu with rare halal nabemono + sashimi. Caveats: service consistently criticized (slow, late opening), prices up from S$1.88 to S$3+, quality varies, OTH 10 min from MRT. But: irreplaceable for Muslim sushi lovers. No alternative exists. Manage service expectations. Go off-peak. And appreciate the fact that a halal belt sushi experience exists at all in Tampines. Twenty years ago, this was impossible. Today, thanks to Hei Sushi, Muslim families can enjoy picking sushi plates from a moving belt in a fully halal environment. That matters.

Halal Japanese Guide

5 halal Japanese in Tampines: Hei Sushi (sushi/sashimi), Sukiya (gyudon S$4.50), Pepper Lunch (teppan), Haruyama (udon), Tokyo Shokudo (ramen/tendon). Every major category covered. Halal food crawl: Sukiya breakfast, Haruyama lunch, Pepper Lunch dinner, Tokyo Shokudo late, Hei Sushi weekend. Best halal Japanese ecosystem east of CBD. This is genuinely unprecedented and something that Tampines residents and visitors should appreciate. Planning a multi-restaurant halal Japanese experience across one neighbourhood has never been easier or more diverse than this.

OTH Guide

OTH = Tampines largest community hub (pool, gym, library). Hei Sushi = only Japanese restaurant. Natural for post-swim family sushi, weekend outings, post-sports refuelling. 10 min walk from MRT. NOT same as Tampines Mall/Tampines 1.

Halal Sushi

Is Sushi Inherently Halal?

Fish and rice = halal. But restaurants can become non-halal via mirin, cross-contamination, or shared surfaces. Hei Sushi addresses all: halal vinegar, dedicated surfaces, MUIS oversight. Not just halal sushi — peace of mind.

Tips

Tip 1: Go Off-Peak
Off-peak = better service. Weekday 2-5pm best. Avoid Fri eve and weekend lunch peak.
Tip 2: Order Beyond Belt
Belt for fun (2-3 plates) + a la carte main (baked rice or udon) = complete meal ~S$18-22. Better value than belt-only.
Tip 3: Try the Nabemono
Halal nabemono is EXTREMELY rare in SG. Most steamboat not halal. Hei Sushi has it. Try it. S$15-25 shared 2-3 pax.
Tip 4: HomeTeamNS 10% Off
HomeTeamNS members: 10% off all outlets. Flash card at payment. Valid until Jun 2026.

Family Plan

Perfect halal family weekend at OTH: swim (S$1.50/pax) at 9am, Hei Sushi lunch at 11am (S$50-70 for 4), library after. Total ~S$60-80 for a full family day. One building, all halal.

Halal Japanese History

From Zero to Five: Tampines Halal Japanese Evolution

Before 2007: zero halal Japanese options. Hei Sushi pioneered 2007. Sukiya, Pepper Lunch, Tokyo Shokudo, Haruyama followed. Now 5 MUIS options in Tampines alone. 20 years: zero to comprehensive ecosystem. Hei Sushi = the pioneer that proved halal Japanese works.
