🔥 Kushiyaki Charcoal Grill 🏝️ Sentosa Waterfront View 🪵 Bincho Charcoal (Japan) 💰 S$2–30 🍢 49 Skewer Varieties ⭐ 4.3/5 (68 reviews)

What Makes Shin Kushiya Special

The Charcoal
Bincho charcoal (備長炭) — the highest grade of Japanese white charcoal, kiln-fired from ubame oak at 1,200°C. Burns hotter and cleaner than standard charcoal, creating a distinctive crisp, smoky crust.
The View
180 seats on VivoCity Level 2, overlooking Sentosa Boardwalk. Window and terrace seating offer sunset and evening waterfront views.
The Concept
Singapore's pioneer kushiyaki restaurant since 2006. 49 skewer varieties grilled to order, plus sashimi, donburi, tempura, and udon.

About Shin Kushiya

Shin Kushiya was among the first Japanese restaurants to bring the kushiyaki dining concept to Singapore when it opened in 2006. The name combines 'shin' (新, new/true) with 'kushiya' (串家, house of skewers). The VivoCity outlet is the flagship with 180 seats and waterfront setting.

The defining element is Bincho charcoal — 'the King of White Charcoal'. Made from ubame oak fired at 1,000°C for days, it burns at 1,200°C with virtually no smoke. Shin Kushiya imports directly from Japan.

The VivoCity dining room balances contemporary elegance with Japanese tradition. Large windows frame panoramic Sentosa views. At sunset, golden-to-amber light creates one of the most atmospheric Japanese settings in Singapore.

Editor's Note

Shin Kushiya does what it does with consistency and craft. The Bincho charcoal makes a tangible difference you can taste. The Sentosa view is a genuine bonus. Come for a weekday sunset dinner, sit by the window, order the skewers, and let the view do the rest.
